Chairman of the Board
Mr. Lovoi is the managing partner of JVL Advisors, LLC (JVL), a private oil and gas investment advisor and also a manager of Lobo Baya, LLC. Mr. Lovoi is a Director of Helix Energy Solutions Group, a NYSE-listed marine contractor and operator of offshore oil and gas properties and production facilities and Chairman of Dril-Quip, Inc., an NYSE-listed provider of subsea, surface and offshore rig equipment.
For the last 25 years, John Lovoi has held a number of positions in the global oil and gas business, primarily in the areas of investment banking and equity research. From December 2000 until August 2002, Mr. Lovoi served as Head of Morgan Stanley’s Global Oil and Gas investment banking practice. He was responsible for managing a global franchise with professionals in Houston, New York, Canada, London and Singapore. Under Mr. Lovoi’s leadership, Morgan Stanley generally led all important categories of oil and gas investment banking, most importantly mergers and acquisitions. While in this role, Mr. Lovoi established relationships with some of the most influential people in the global oil and gas business including senior officials at a number of the important National Oil Companies, both within and outside of OPEC.
For the five years prior to being named head of the firm’s oil and gas investment banking practice, Mr. Lovoi served as Morgan Stanley’s oilfield services and equipment equity research analyst and, from 1998 to 2000, as Head of Morgan Stanley’s Global Oil and Gas Equity Research franchise. Mr. Lovoi distinguished himself in this role by being one of the fastest professionals at the firm to achieve a top three ranking in the prestigious Institutional Investor equity research analyst poll in 1997 and held the number two ranking for the next three years. Throughout this period, Mr. Lovoi was consistently regarded as one of the most influential analysts in this sector and was well known for his stock picking capabilities. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 1995, he spent two years as a senior financial executive at Baker Hughes and four years as an energy investment banker with Credit Suisse First Boston.
Mr. Lovoi graduated from Texas A&M University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and received his Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis on finance and accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988.
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Raleigh has held a number of positions in the global oil and gas business spanning 35 years, primarily in the areas of reservoir development strategy, property valuations, completions and production. Mr. Raleigh’s experience ranges across North and South America, the UK North Sea, Russia, the Caspian area and the Middle East. Most recently, in mid-2005, Mr. Raleigh became a technical consultant to JVL Advisors and a founding partner of Lobo Baya, LLC. Lobo Baya currently manages and serves as the General Partner to four Permian based drilling partnerships focused on non-conventional oil and gas development. These private partnerships have deployed over $200 mm of capital and created a very attractive portfolio of non-conventional assets for its limited partners.
In 1985, Mr. Raleigh co-founded an engineering and software development business which was merged into Intera and then sold to Schlumberger Oilfield Services in late 1996. The key reservoir modelling platform within the acquired business, ECLIPSE, is now the global industry standard for comprehensive reservoir evaluation and asset management. While at Schlumberger from 2000 through 2004, Mr. Raleigh pioneered the origination of several large ($100 million and greater) field development projects coupled with structured finance. Schlumberger products and services coupled with other service companies’ offerings and third party risked capital were deployed in return for production payments. These projects proved very successful for Schlumberger and its partners. Prior to the acquisition of Intera by Schlumberger, Mr. Raleigh provided expertise on such varied projects as Permian Basin water floods, Rockies, Mid-continent and Gulf Coast tight gas and coal bed completions and asset development; economic feasibility studies for the giant Cantarell complex, advising senior management of PEMEX; the North Kuwait Oilfields, determining the economic damages caused by the Iraqi invasions and provided support for Kuwait’s claims at the UN. While at the predecessor company, from 1985 through 1996, Mr. Raleigh oversaw project management for various oil and gas development projects including conventional oil and gas, secondary oil recovery and unconventional gas production assets focusing on tight gas, shale gas and coal-bed methane. From 1997 until March 2000, Mr. Raleigh served as Head of the European Division of Schlumberger’s consulting services division covering Middle East, Europe, Africa, Russia and the North Sea providing integrated geosciences and engineering asset management solutions. He was responsible for managing a group of professionals in Moscow, Aberdeen, Dubai and London. Mr. Raleigh established relationships with many senior operating personnel in the global oil and gas business including a number of the National Oil Companies.
Mr. Raleigh graduated from Queens University in Canada in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado in 1993.
Independent Director, Chairman of the Compensation, Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee
Mr. Dougherty is a Managing Director of Advisory Research, Inc. (Advisory Research), an investment management firm founded in 1974 with more than $10 billion in assets under management, a significant portion of which is invested in N. American E&P and midstream companies. As Managing Director, Mr. Dougherty oversees the firm’s investments in oil and natural gas producers and has served as the Portfolio Manager of the Advisory Research Energy Fund, L.P. since 2005. In this capacity, Mr. Dougherty leads a team with significant expertise in unconventional oil and natural gas assets throughout North America. Mr. Dougherty holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from Saint Lawrence University and is a CFA charter holder. He resides in Chicago.
Mr. Finlayson is the founder and, since 2003, the Executive Chairman of Applied Manufacturing Technologies, an independent international consulting and project services company supporting operating companies in the downstream facilities, refining and chemicals industries. Mr. Finlayson was the leader of the Information Management Division, and later the business unit leader for the Enterprise Solution Division of Aspen Technology Inc (NASDAQ: AZPN).
Independent Director, Chairman of the Audit Committee
Ryan Roebuck currently serves as a partner of XDR Capital Group (XDR), a private investment firm located in Toronto where he specializes in investing in public and private event driven and special situations in North America. Prior to joining XDR, Mr. Roebuck worked as an equity research analyst at M Partners where he covered companies in various sectors in North America including natural resource-focused companies. While at M Partners, Ryan was rated the number three overall stock picker in Canada by returns generated on the sell side by First Coverage in 2010.
Mr. Roorda is currently the Executive Vice President of Todd Energy International Limited, a private company focusing on developing an unconventional gas resource in northeastern British Columbia, Canada and developing a methanol production facility in southern Louisiana, United States. Mr. Roorda is a Professional Engineer and has over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, founding three oil and gas companies and acting in senior roles responsible for operational and development management, financial management and business development He is also the Managing Director of Windward Capital Limited, a private advisory company, a director of PetroShale Inc., a publicly listed energy company focused on the North Dakota Bakken, a director of Northcliff Resources Ltd., a publicly listed mining company, and a director of Wolf Minerals Limited, a publicly listed mining company. He was formerly the Vice Chairman for Canoe Financial Corp., the President and VP Corporate for Harvest Energy, VP Corporate and Director for PrimeWest Energy, Inc., and Managing Director for Research Capital Corporation. Mr. Roorda graduated from Queens University in Canada in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and received his Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Calgary in 1987.
Mr. Stephens is the Founder and CEO of Westminster Advisors, a business advisory firm serving global executives, entrepreneurs and organizations. Westminster Advisors provides its transformation leadership to organizations seeking sales growth strategies, enterprise value enhancement, financing, interim leadership and succession planning. Prior to founding Westminster Advisors, Mr. Stephens co-founded The Procurement Centre, a professional service company in supply chain management which was ultimately acquired by Resources Global Professionals, a public global consulting company. He served on the executive management team in several key leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Stephens is a Houston native and received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance & Economics from Texas A & M University. He has also completed several Executive education programs at both Texas A & M University and Rice University.
